 child. He looked her in her eyes and said “have a nice day, and stay warm.” I remember him then taking my mitten clad hand and we walked away, and he said “No child deserves that kind of life. No one should be that cold and that hungry”. That always makes me choke up. He understood people’s
pain. When I grew up I learned a little about his childhood. He was that child. He understood pain. He had so much of his own.
When you have a difficult relationship with someone, it is really hard to pick out ten pure and happy memories. I got to six and I fell asleep. I know if I really tried I could think of four more. Truth is, coming up with those six is enough. Six memories. It wasn’t easy. Sometimes fishing with your dad, throwing a ball around and witnessing an act of kindness is enough.
