“I write the songs that make the whole world sing. I write the songs of love and special things. I write the songs that make the young girls cry. I am music and I write the songs”-Barry Manalow
What is more fun then singing on the top of your lungs? Maybe adding some air guitar, and perhaps some slick moves? My sister came to visit last week and we found a great station on the radio. Every song we would say “Oh, I love this one”, and then proceed to sing it off-key, top of our lungs. We got pretty much every word right. Pretty much.
When I was in high school we would rock out to Def leopard, Erasure, The Cure, AC/DC, Depeche Mode, B52’s, Genesis. The 80’s seriously had the best music.
But what were the right lyrics? Seriously, does anyone really sing the right words to Bruce Springsteen’s “Blinded by the Light“? I will admit, before I looked up the words, I sang “Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche, another rumor in the night”. Granted, that makes NO sense. The right lyrics “And she was blinded by the light, Oh cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night”. That doesn’t really make sense either!
The Ramones “I wanna be sedated” for example. When I was younger I swore that he sang “I want a piece of cake” in the chorus. Ummmm, he didn’t. He should have.
I love Elton John, but seriously... Who knows what he is saying in some of his songs. “Bennie and the Jets” for example. “We’ll kill the fatted calf tonight so stick around, You’re gonna hear electric music solid walls of sound”. What the hell? Fatted calf? Why? Until I looked those lyrics up that was absolutely not what I was singing.
Taylor Swift wasn’t talking about Starbuck lovers in “Blank Space“? Because it sure sounds like that is what she was saying! Come to find it is a long list of ex-lovers. I like Starbuck lovers better. For the record.
Calvin Harris’s song “Sweet Nothing“, my daughter may or may NOT have sung the chorus that he was living on such sweet elephants. True story.
Bottom line, play the music LOUDER then you are singing and belt our what is in your heart.
