Not today...
January 24, 2018
Kelly Herron was attacked in a public restroom while running in Seattle’s Golden Gardens park. ... Using self-defense tactics she learned from a class at work, which emphasized ‘[putting] hard bones in soft fleshy places,’ Herron successfully escaped her attacker. Pumped on adrenaline, she screamed “Not today Mother fucker”.
My new motto is “Not today Mother Fucker”. I love every single thing about it. Maybe tomorrow? Probably not. Lets just go with the first one.
There isn’t a more empowering phase I can personally think of. If we all lived our lives with that kind of resolve, can you even imagine? Talk about clear boundaries!
The story of the jogger demonstrates to me that when we are “over it” we are really “over it”. Kelly Herron didn’t just escape either. She actually fought back. She beat her attacker up! With her adrenaline pumping from her run, paired with just NOT in the mood, she took over! I understand this. I use to scream “Uncle” when I was pushed too far. That point when you are no longer “playing” and the shit gets real.
With all the talk about women becoming empowered, I encourage you, my readers, to make this your own mission statement too.
